but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die.*


Then Yarov`am built Shekhem in the hill country of Efrayim, and lived therein; and he went out from there, and built Penu'el.


*Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.


After my words they didn't speak again. My speech fell on them.


Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility.


For all these things has my hand made, and [so] all these things came to be, says the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.


For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Retzin; and within sixty-five years Efrayim shall be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people;


They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Ba`alim, and burned incense to engraved images.

These are the names of the men who Moshe sent to spy out the land. Moshe called Hoshea the son of Nun Yehoshua.


Of the tribe of Efrayim, Hoshea the son of Nun.


For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.*
