David said, Shlomo my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.


They sang one to another in praising and giving thanks to the LORD, [saying], For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever toward Yisra'el. All the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.


But many of the Kohanim and Levites and heads of fathers' [houses], the old men who had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:


Your holy cities are become a wilderness, Tziyon is become a wilderness, Yerushalayim a desolation.


As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty; but they made the images of their abominations [and] their detestable things therein: therefore have I made it to them as an unclean thing.


'The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,' says the LORD of Armies; 'and in this place will I give shalom,' says the LORD of Armies.*
