It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.


As time passed, it happened that Kayin brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the ground.


You call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD; and the God who answers by fire, let him be God.* All the people answered, *It is well said.*


Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.


David built there an altar to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and shalom offerings, and called on the LORD; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.


Now when Shlomo had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.


remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah.

Shemu'el said, Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
