24 It happened about three months later, that it was told Yehudah, saying, *Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the prostitute; and moreover, behold, she is with child by prostitution.* Yehudah said, *Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.*

But God came to Avimelekh in a dream of the night, and said to him, *Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken. For she is a man's wife.*


Now therefore, restore the man's wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don't restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.*


Then Avimelekh called Avraham, and said to him, *What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!*


They said, *Should he deal with our sister as with a prostitute?*


Yehudah said, *Let her keep it, lest we be shamed. Behold, I sent this kid, and you haven't found her.*


David's anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Natan, *As the LORD lives, the man who has done this is worthy to die!


Natan said to David, *You are the man. This is what the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, says: 'I anointed you king over Yisra'el, and I delivered you out of the hand of Sha'ul.


I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and traps, whose hands are chains. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner will be ensnared by her.


For of old time I have broken your yoke, and burst your bonds; and you said, I will not serve; for on every high hill and under every green tree you did bow yourself, playing the prostitute.


They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, will he return to her again? Won't that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the prostitute with many lovers; yet return again to me, says the LORD.


Moreover the LORD said to me in the days of Yoshiyahu the king, Have you seen that which backsliding Yisra'el has done? she is gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there has played the prostitute.


I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Yisra'el had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce, yet treacherous Yehudah, her sister, didn't fear; but she also went and played the prostitute.


But you did trust in your beauty, and played the prostitute because of your renown, and poured out your prostitution on everyone who passed by; his it was.


You have built your lofty place at the head of every way, and have made your beauty an abomination, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your prostitution.


You have also committed sexual immorality with the Egyptians, your neighbors, great of flesh; and have multiplied your prostitution, to provoke me to anger.


You have played the prostitute also with the Ashur, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the prostitute with them, and yet you weren't satisfied.


They shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women; and I will cause you to cease from playing the prostitute, and you shall also give no hire any more.


Yet she multiplied her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth, in which she had played the prostitute in the land of Egypt.


They went in to her, as they go in to a prostitute: so went they in to Oholah and to Oholivah, the lewd women.


Oholah played the prostitute when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Ashur [her] neighbors,


For their mother has played the prostitute. She who conceived them has done shamefully; for she said, 'I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.'


I said to her, *You shall stay with me many days. You shall not play the prostitute, and you shall not be with any other man. I will also be so toward you.*


*Though you, Yisra'el, play the prostitute, yet don't let Yehudah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beit-Aven, nor swear, 'As the LORD lives.'


*'The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, even he who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.


*'The daughter of any Kohen, if she profanes herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father: she shall be burned with fire.


Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who doesn't judge himself in that which he approves.


The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.


His concubine played the prostitute against him, and went away from him to her father's house to Beit-Lechem-Yehudah, and was there the space of four months.
