They traveled from Beit-El. There was still some distance to come to Efrat, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.


It happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Benoni, but his father named him Binyamin.


As for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Kena`an in the way, when there was still some distance to come to Efrat, and I buried her there in the way to Efrat (the same is Beit-Lechem).*


David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Pelishtim was then in Beit-Lechem.


David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beit-Lechem, which is by the gate!

Now when Yeshua was born in Beit-Lechem of Yehudah in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Yerushalayim, saying,


'You Beit-Lechem, land of Yehudah, are in no way least among the princes of Yehudah: for out of you shall come forth a governor, who shall shepherd my people, Yisra'el.'*


and Kattat, and Nahalal, and Shimron, and Yid'alah, and Beit-Lechem: twelve cities with their villages.


There was a young man out of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah, of the family of Yehudah, who was a Levite; and he sojourned there.


The name of the man was Elimelekh, and the name of his wife Na`omi 1, and the name of his two sons Machlon and Kilyon, Efratites of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah. They came into the country of Mo'av, and continued there.


All the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Le'ah, which two built the house of Yisra'el: and do you worthily in Efratah, and be famous in Beit-Lechem:


When you are departed from me today, then you shall find two men by Rachel's tomb, in the border of Binyamin at Tzeltzach; and they will tell you, The donkeys which you went to seek are found; and behold, your father has left off caring for the donkeys, and is anxious for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?


Shemu'el did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Beit-Lechem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Come you peaceably?


Now David was the son of that Efratite of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah, whose name was Yishai; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Sha'ul, stricken [in years] among men.
