Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, *Has God really said, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'*


Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.


Whoever sheds man's blood, his blood will be shed by man, for God made man in his own image.


Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him. His enemies shall lick the dust.


You will be brought down, and will speak out of the ground. Your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will be as of one who has a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and your speech will whisper out of the dust.


The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox; and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, says the LORD.


*'You shall therefore make a distinction between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean fowl and the clean: and you shall not make yourselves abominable by animal, or by bird, or by anything with which the ground teems, which I have separated from you as unclean for you.


They will lick the dust like a serpent. Like crawling things of the earth they shall come trembling out of their dens. They will come with fear to the LORD our God, and will be afraid because of you.
