Now Sarai, Avram's wife, bore him no children. She had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.


He went in to Hagar, and she conceived. When she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.


The angel of the LORD said to her, *Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.*


God heard the voice of the boy. The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, *What ails you, Hagar? Don't be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.


The LORD God called to the man, and said to him, *Where are you?*


The LORD said, *What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.


It was so, when Eliyahu heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, there came a voice to him, and said, What are you doing here, Eliyahu?


He came there to a cave, and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said to him, What are you doing here, Eliyahu?


But he went in, and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, Whence come you, Gechazi? He said, Your servant went no where.


If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, don't leave your place; for gentleness lays great offenses to rest.


He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, Where go you? and whence come you?


Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it be the LORD that has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering: but if it be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD: for they have driven me out this day that I shouldn't cling to the LORD's inheritance, saying, Go, serve other gods.
