So all Yisra'el were reckoned by genealogies; and behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Yisra'el: and Yehudah was carried away captive to Bavel for their disobedience.


Now the first inhabitants who lived in their possessions in their cities were Yisra'el, the Kohanim, the Levites, and the temple servants 1.

Go you forth from Bavel, flee you from the Kasdim; with a voice of singing declare you, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth: say you, the LORD has redeemed his servant Ya`akov.


I will bring Yisra'el again to his pasture, and he shall feed on Karmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on the hills of Efrayim and in Gil`ad.


Yehudah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude; she dwells among the nations, she finds no rest: all her persecutors overtook her within the straits.


Her adversaries are become the head, her enemies prosper; for the LORD has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her young children are gone into captivity before the adversary.


The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, daughter of Tziyon; he will no more carry you away into captivity: He will visit your iniquity, daughter of Edom; he will uncover your sins.


The coast will be for the remnant of the house of Yehudah. They will find pasture. In the houses of Ashkelon, they will lie down in the evening, for the LORD, their God, will visit them, and restore them.


When the governor had read it, he asked what province he was from. When he understood that he was from Cilicia, he said,
