1 When the people saw that Moshe delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aharon, and said to him, *Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moshe, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him.*

Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, *Get up! Get out of this place, for the LORD will destroy the city.* But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.


Avimelekh said, *I don't know who has done this thing. Neither did you tell me, neither did I hear of it, until today.*


But he refused, and said to his master's wife, *Behold, my master doesn't know what is with me in the house, and he has put all that he has into my hand.


Yosef said to them, *What deed is this that you have done? Don't you know that such a man as I can indeed divine?*


When they had gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Yosef said to his steward, *Up, follow after the men. When you overtake them, ask them, 'Why have you rewarded evil for good?


They made a calf in Chorev, and worshiped a molten image.


The LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them on their way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night:


They said to Moshe, *Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us forth out of Egypt?


and the children of Yisra'el said to them, *We wish that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.*


You shall most certainly not make alongside of me gods of silver, or gods of gold for yourselves.


The LORD said to Moshe, *Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tables of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.*


Moshe entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moshe was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.


Moshe begged the LORD his God, and said, *The LORD, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?


Aharon said, *Don't let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.


For they said to me, 'Make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moshe, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him.'


The LORD spoke to Moshe, *Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!


to a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you in the way.*


But they rebelled against me, and would not listen to me; they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.


By a prophet the LORD brought Yisra'el up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.


For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage. I sent before you Moshe, Aharon, and Miryam.


because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;


But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.


But if that evil servant should say in his heart, 'My lord is delaying his coming,'


Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man.


You see and hear, that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Sha'ul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands.


saying to Aharon, 'Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this Moshe, who led us out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him.'


The LORD, he it is who does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: don't be afraid, neither be dismayed.


Hear, Yisra'el: you are to pass over the Yarden this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,


When I was gone up onto the mountain to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water.


Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus says the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, There is a devoted thing in the midst of you, Yisra'el; you can not stand before your enemies, until you take away the devoted thing from among you.


and saying, *Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.*
