On the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.


God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work which he had created and made.


In those days saw I in Yehudah some men treading winepresses on the Shabbat, and bringing in sheaves, and lading donkeys [therewith]; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Yerushalayim on the day of Shabbat: and I testified [against them] in the day in which they sold food.


and made known to them your holy Shabbat, and commanded them mitzvot, and statutes, and a law, by Moshe your servant,


*Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your handmaid, and the alien may be refreshed.


The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying,


Moshe assembled all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, and said to them, *These are the words which the LORD has commanded, that you should do them.


Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast; who keeps the Shabbat from profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.


If you turn away your foot from the Shabbat, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the Shabbat a delight, [and] the holy of the LORD honorable; and shall honor it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking [your own] words:


Thus says the LORD, Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the day of Shabbat, nor bring it in by the gates of Yerushalayim;


neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the day of Shabbat holy, neither do any work: but make the day of Shabbat, as I commanded your fathers.


It shall happen, if you diligently listen to me, says the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the day of Shabbat, but to make the day of Shabbat holy, to do no work therein;


and make my Shabbatot holy; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.


*'Each one of you shall respect his mother and his father. You shall keep my Shabbatot. I am the LORD your God.


*'You shall keep my Shabbatot, and reverence my sanctuary; I am the LORD.


*'Six days shall work be done: but on the seventh day is a Shabbat of solemn rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no manner of work. It is a Shabbat to the LORD in all your dwellings.


*'You shall keep my Shabbatot, and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD.


While the children of Yisra'el were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the day of Shabbat.


*Observe the day of Shabbat, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you.
