They soon forgot his works. They didn't wait for his counsel,


but gave in to craving in the desert, and tested God in the wasteland.


They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.


They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Yisra'el.


Yet they tempted and rebelled against the El `Elyon, and didn't keep his testimonies;


Don't harden your heart, as at Merivah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,


when your fathers tempted me, tested me, and saw my work.


The people murmured against Moshe, saying, *What shall we drink?*


Moshe said, *Now the LORD shall give you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfy you; because the LORD hears your murmurings which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.*


He called the name of the place Massah, and Merivah, because the children of Yisra'el quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, *Is the LORD among us, or not?*


and they said to them, *May the LORD look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Par`oh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.*


But Achaz said, *I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.*


Now we call the proud happy; yes, those who work wickedness are built up; yes, they tempt God, and escape.'


All the children of Yisra'el murmured against Moshe and against Aharon: and the whole congregation said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!


because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;


The people spoke against God, and against Moshe, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread.


Yeshua said to him, *Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.'*


The younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of your property.' He divided his livelihood between them.


Yeshua answering, said to him, *It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'*


Now therefore why do you tempt God, that you should put a yoke on the neck of the talmidim which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?


But Kefa asked her, *How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.*


Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.


You shall not tempt the LORD your God, as you tempted him in Massah.


At Tav`erah, and at Massah, and at Kivrot-Hatta'avah, you provoked the LORD to wrath.


where your fathers tested me by proving me, and saw my works for forty years.


But the thing displeased Shemu'el, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. Shemu'el prayed to the LORD.
