for it was so, when Izevel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that `Ovadyah 1 took one hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)


Now when these things were done, the princes drew near to me, saying, The people of Yisra'el, and the Kohanim and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, [doing] according to their abominations, even of the Kena`anim, the Chitti, the Perizzi, the Yevusi, the `Ammonim, the Mo`avim, the Egyptians, and the Amori.


because they didn't meet the children of Yisra'el with bread and with water, but hired Bil`am against them, to curse them: however our God turned the curse into a blessing.


In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old.


Of the children of `Ammon. Thus says the LORD: Has Yisra'el no sons? has he no heir? why then does Malkam possess Gad, and his people well in the cities of it?


The adversary has spread out his hand on all her pleasant things: for she has seen that the nations are entered into her sanctuary, concerning whom you did command that they should not enter into your assembly.


Thus says the Lord GOD, No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any foreigners who are among the children of Yisra'el.


For thus says the LORD of Armies: 'For honor he has sent me to the nations which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.


for I will promote you to very great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do. Please come therefore, and curse this people for me.


He took up his parable, and said, From Aram has Balak brought me, The king of Mo'av from the mountains of the East: Come, curse me Ya`akov, Come, defy Yisra'el.


*The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'


He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, *Sha'ul, Sha'ul, why do you persecute me?*


Then Balak the son of Tzippor, king of Mo'av, arose and fought against Yisra'el: and he sent and called Bil`am the son of Be'or to curse you;


forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Bil`am the son of Be'or, who loved the wages of wrong-doing;


Woe to them! For they went in the way of Kayin, and ran riotously in the error of Bil`am for hire, and perished in Korach's rebellion.


Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my meat that I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men who I don't know where they come from?
