Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Yerushalayim; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Daryavesh king of Paras.


Now after these things, in the reign of Artachshasta king of Paras, Ezra the son of Serayah, the son of `Azaryah, the son of Chilkiyah,


He came to Yerushalayim in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.


Then Elyashiv the Kohen Gadol rose up with his brothers the Kohanim, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even to the tower of Hammeah they sanctified it, to the tower of Chanan'el.


He spoke before his brothers and the army of Shomron, and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burned?


and they conspired all of them together to come and fight against Yerushalayim, and to cause confusion therein.


So the wall was finished in the twenty-fifth [day] of [the month] Elul, in fifty-two days.


For my enemies talk about me. Those who watch for my soul conspire together,


a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;


Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander to the peoples.


For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Shalom.


Yes, it magnified itself, even to the prince of the army; and it took away from him the continual [burnt offering], and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.


Through his policy he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and in [their] security shall he destroy many: he shall also stand up against the prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
