Yirmeyahu lamented for Yoshiyahu: and all the singing men and singing women spoke of Yoshiyahu in their lamentations to this day; and they made them an ordinance in Yisra'el: and behold, they are written in the lamentations.


For the cry has gone around the borders of Mo'av; its wailing to Eglayim, and its wailing to Be'er Elim.


In that day, the Lord, the LORD of Armies, called to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to dressing in sackcloth:


For thus says the LORD: We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of shalom.


For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her who brings forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Tziyon, who gasps for breath, who spreads her hands, [saying], Woe is me now! for my soul faints before the murderers.


For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passes through; neither can men hear the voice of the livestock; both the birds of the sky and the animals are fled, they are gone.


I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.


Therefore the land will mourn, and everyone who dwells therein will waste away. all living things in her, even the animals of the field and the birds of the sky; yes, the fish of the sea also die.


Be confounded, you farmers! Wail, you vineyard keepers; for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field has perished.


Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of the LORD, your God, and cry to the LORD.


Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.


Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth!


*Listen, and testify against the house of Ya`akov,* says the Lord GOD, the God Tzeva'ot.


Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus,* says the LORD, whose name is the God Tzeva'ot.


I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will make you wear sackcloth on all your bodies, and baldness on every head. I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and the end of it like a bitter day.


The songs of the temple will be wailings in that day,* says the Lord GOD. *The dead bodies will be many. In every place they will throw them out with silence.


For this I will lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will howl like the jackals, and moan like the daughters of owls.


In that day they will take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, saying, 'We are utterly ruined! My people's possession is divided up. Indeed he takes it from me and assigns our fields to traitors!'*


standing far away for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, Bavel, the strong city! For your judgment has come in one hour.'


They cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her great wealth!' For in one hour is she made desolate.
