For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that the LORD may bring on Avraham that which he has spoken of him.*


That your way may be known on earth, and your yeshu`ah among all nations,


The voice of one who calls out, *Prepare the way of the LORD in the wilderness! Make a level highway in the desert for our God.


Thus says the LORD, Stand you in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk [therein].


Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of the LORD are right, and the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.


The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make ready the way of the Lord! Make his paths straight!'*


When they had come, they asked him, *Rabbi, we know that you are honest, and don't defer to anyone; for you aren't partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?


that you might know the certainty concerning the things in which you were instructed.


When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they declared God to be just, having been immersed with Yochanan's immersion.
