It happened after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Eliyahu, in the third year, saying, Go, show yourself to Ach'av; and I will send rain on the earth.


They took fortified cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns hewn out, vineyards, and olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance: so they ate, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in your great goodness.


For by these he judges the people. He gives food in abundance.


For he says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth;' likewise to the shower of rain, and to the showers of his mighty rain.


who gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields;


The LORD is good to all. His tender mercies are over all his works.


You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and their new wine are increased.


and behold, joy and gladness, killing oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: *Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die.*


Haven't you known? Haven't you heard, yet? Haven't you been told from the beginning? Haven't you understood from the foundations of the earth?


I will lay it a wasteland. It won't be pruned nor hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.*


Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the sky give showers? Aren't you he, the LORD our God? therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.


Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season; who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest.


I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in its season; there shall be showers of blessing.


*Be glad then, you children of Tziyon, and rejoice in the LORD, your God; for he gives you the former rain in just measure, and he causes the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.


then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.


that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.


But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Elyon; for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.


Even saying these things, they hardly stopped the multitudes from making a sacrifice to them.


He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings,


that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, and your new wine, and your oil.


The LORD will open to you his good treasure in the sky, to give the rain of your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand: and you shall lend to many nations, and you shall not borrow.


Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;
