In that day the LORD made a covenant with Avram, saying, *To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Perat:


When the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Yisra'el, they gathered themselves together.


Hadad`ezer sent, and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River: and they came to Chelam, with Shovakh the captain of the army of Hadad`ezer at their head.


When all the kings who were servants to Hadad`ezer saw that they were put to the worse before Yisra'el, they made shalom with Yisra'el, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of `Ammon any more.


When the children of `Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of `Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beit-Rechov, and the Syrians of Tzovah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Ma`akhah with one thousand men, and the men of Tov twelve thousand men.

Shlomo ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Pelishtim, and to the border of Egypt: they brought tribute, and served Shlomo all the days of his life.


David struck Hadad`ezer king of Tzovah to Chamat, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Perat.


Shlomo went to Chamat-Tzovah, and prevailed against it.


He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth.


I will set your border from the Sea of Suf even to the sea of the Pelishtim, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.


Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Levanon, from the river, the river Perat, even to the hinder sea shall be your border.


Now when Sha'ul had taken the kingdom over Yisra'el, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Mo'av, and against the children of `Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Tzovah, and against the Pelishtim: and wherever he turned himself, he put [them] to the worse.
