43 The men of Yisra'el answered the men of Yehudah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more [right] in David than you: why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? He bowed the heart of all the men of Yehudah, even as [the heart of] one man; so that they sent to the king, [saying], Return you, and all your servants.


All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Yisra'el, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Pelishtim; and now he is fled out of the land from Avshalom.


There happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheva, the son of Bikhri, a Binyamini: and he blew the shofar, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Yishai: every man to his tents, Yisra'el.


David said to Avishai, Now will Sheva the son of Bikhri do us more harm than did Avshalom: take your lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.


Then came all the tribes of Yisra'el to David to Chevron, and spoke, saying, Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.


When all Yisra'el saw that the king didn't listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Yishai: to your tents, Yisra'el: now see to your own house, David. So Yisra'el departed to their tents.


Pride only breeds quarrels, but with ones who take advice is wisdom.


A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.


The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.


A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city; and disputes are like the bars of a castle.


Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.


But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you don't consume one another.


idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,


Let's not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.


doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;


for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God.


The men of Efrayim said to him, Why have you served us thus, that you didn't call us, when you went to fight with Midyan? They did chide with him sharply.
