David numbered the people who were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.


There happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheva, the son of Bikhri, a Binyamini: and he blew the shofar, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Yishai: every man to his tents, Yisra'el.


When all Yisra'el saw that the king didn't listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Yishai: to your tents, Yisra'el: now see to your own house, David. So Yisra'el departed to their tents.


There came of the children of Binyamin and Yehudah to the stronghold to David.


A shoot will come out of the stock of Yishai, and a branch out of his roots will bear fruit.


It will happen in that day that the nations will seek the root of Yishai, who stands as a banner of the peoples; and his resting place will be glorious.


David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.


It happened on the next day after the new moon, [which was] the second [day], that David's place was empty: and Sha'ul said to Yonatan his son, Why doesn't the son of Yishai come to meat, neither yesterday, nor today?


Then Sha'ul's anger was kindled against Yonatan, and he said to him, You son of a perverse rebellious woman, don't I know that you have chosen the son of Yishai to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?


Sha'ul said to him, Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Yishai, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?


Then answered Do'eg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Sha'ul, and said, I saw the son of Yishai coming to Nov, to Achimelekh the son of Achituv.


Naval answered David's servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Yishai? there are many servants who break away from their masters these days.
