Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Tziyon; the same is the city of David.


Now king Shlomo loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Par`oh, women of the Mo`avim, `Ammonim, Edom, Tzidonim, and Chitti;


David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.


It happened in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Yisra'el were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Shlomo's reign over Yisra'el, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.


Shlomo was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.


His house where he was to dwell, the other court within the porch, was of the like work. He made also a house for Par`oh's daughter (whom Shlomo had taken as wife), like this porch.


It happened, when Shlomo had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king's house, and all Shlomo's desire which he was pleased to do,


It happened at the end of twenty years, in which Shlomo had built the two houses, the house of the LORD and the king's house


But Par`oh's daughter came up out of the city of David to her house which [Shlomo] had built for her: then did he build Millo.


David lived in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.


Now Yehoshafat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ach'av.


Shlomo brought up the daughter of Par`oh out of the city of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Yisra'el, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of the LORD has come.


Thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and are building the house that was built these many years ago, which a great king of Yisra'el built and finished.


shall we again break your mitzvot, and join in affinity with the peoples that do these abominations? would not you be angry with us until you had consumed us, so that there should be no remnant, nor any to escape?


The children of the third generation who are born to them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD.
