Amnon was so vexed that he fell sick because of his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything to her.


He said to him, Why, son of the king, are you thus lean from day to day? Won't you tell me? Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Avshalom's sister.


The king of Yisra'el went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Shomron.


It happened after these things, that Navot the Yizre`eli had a vineyard, which was in Yizre`el, hard by the palace of Ach'av king of Shomron.


Navot said to Ach'av, the LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you.


But Izevel his wife came to him, and said to him, Why is your spirit so sad, that you eat no bread?


Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordekhai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.*


For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple.


Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.


But it displeased Yonah exceedingly, and he was angry.


The LORD said, *Is it right for you to be angry?*
