It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.


You call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD; and the God who answers by fire, let him be God.* All the people answered, *It is well said.*


The water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.


Hear me, LORD, hear me, that this people may know that you, LORD, are God, and [that] you have turned their heart back again.


Eliyahu answered them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty. The fire of God came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.


David built there an altar to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and shalom offerings, and called on the LORD; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.
