Ya`akov said, *First, sell me your birthright.*


The sons of Le'ah: Re'uven (Ya`akov's firstborn), Shim`on, Levi, Yehudah, Yissakhar, and Zevulun.


Now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you into Egypt, are mine; Efrayim and Menasheh, even as Re'uven and Shim`on, will be mine.


The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of your ancestors, above the boundaries of the ancient hills. They will be on the head of Yosef, on the crown of the head of him who is separated from his brothers.


David reigned over all Yisra'el; and David executed justice and righteousness to all his people.


However the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Yisra'el forever: for he has chosen Yehudah to be prince; and in the house of Yehudah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Yisra'el;


Gil`ad is mine. Menasheh is mine. Efrayim also is my helmet. Yehudah is my scepter.


Gil`ad is mine, and Menasheh is mine. Efrayim also is the defense of my head. Yehudah is my scepter.


But you, Beit-Lechem Efratah, being small among the clans of Yehudah, out of you one will come forth to me that is to be ruler in Yisra'el; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.


Those who encamp on the east side toward the sunrise shall be of the standard of the camp of Yehudah, according to their divisions: and the prince of the children of Yehudah shall be Nachshon the son of `Amminadav.


He who offered his offering the first day was Nachshon the son of `Amminadav, of the tribe of Yehudah,


'You Beit-Lechem, land of Yehudah, are in no way least among the princes of Yehudah: for out of you shall come forth a governor, who shall shepherd my people, Yisra'el.'*


For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.


but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.


The firstborn of his herd, majesty is his. His horns are the horns of the wild ox. With them he shall push the peoples all of them, [even] the ends of the earth: They are the ten thousands of Efrayim. They are the thousands of Menasheh.


For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Yehudah, about which tribe Moshe spoke nothing concerning priesthood.


Then the children of Yehudah drew near to Yehoshua in Gilgal: and Kalev the son of Yefunneh the Kenizzi said to him, You know the thing that the LORD spoke to Moshe the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-Barnea.


One of the elders said to me, *Don't weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Yehudah, the Root of David, has overcome; he who opens the book and its seven seals.*


The LORD said, Yehudah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.


The LORD said to Shemu'el, How long will you mourn for Sha'ul, seeing I have rejected him from being king over Yisra'el? fill your horn with oil, and go: I will send you to Yishai the Beit-Hallachmite; for I have provided me a king among his sons.


Yishai made seven of his sons to pass before Shemu'el. Shemu'el said to Yishai, the LORD has not chosen these.


He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful face, and goodly to look on. The LORD said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.
