When they told it to David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, Wait at Yericho until your beards be grown, and then return.


In his days did Chi'el the Beit-Eli build Yericho: he laid the foundation of it with the loss of Aviram his firstborn, and set up the gates of it with the loss of his youngest son Seguv, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Yehoshua the son of Nun.


So Chanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.


When the children of `Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Chanun and the children of `Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Aram-Naharayim, and out of Arammaacah, and out of Tzovah.


So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told to their lord all that was done.


However the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaved.
