2 David said, I will show kindness to Chanun the son of Nachash, because his father shown kindness to me. So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David's servants came into the land of the children of `Ammon to Chanun, to comfort him.

David said, Is there yet any who is left of the house of Sha'ul, that I may show him kindness for Yonatan's sake?


David said to him, *Don't be afraid of him; for I will surely show you kindness for Yonatan your father's sake, and will restore you all the land of Sha'ul your father; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.*


He said to him, Say now to her, Behold, you have been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for you? would you be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the army? She answered, I dwell among my own people.


It happened after this, that Nachash the king of the children of `Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.


But the princes of the children of `Ammon said to Chanun, Think you that David does honor your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Aren't his servants come to you to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?
