1 It happened, when David lived in his house, that David said to Natan the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD [dwells] under curtains.

The LORD sent Natan to David. He came to him, and said to him, *There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.


and he sent by the hand of Natan the prophet; and he named him Yedidyah, for the LORD's sake.


They brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and shalom offerings before the LORD.


They told the king, saying, Behold, Natan the prophet. When he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.


and the king has sent with him Tzadok the Kohen, and Natan the prophet, and Benayah the son of Yehoiada, and the Kereti and the Peleti; and they have caused him to ride on the king's mule;


But Tzadok the Kohen, and Benayah the son of Yehoiada, and Natan the prophet, and Shim`i, and Re`i, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adoniyahu.


Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el.


Chiram king of Tzor sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.


[David] made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.


They brought in the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt offerings and shalom offerings before God.


Natan said to David, Do all that is in your heart; for God is with you.


for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up Yisra'el, to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from [one] tent [to another].


Then he called for Shlomo his son, and charged him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Yisra'el.


David said to Shlomo his son, As for me, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of the LORD my God.


Then David the king stood up on his feet, and said, Hear me, my brothers, and my people: as for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made ready for the building.


Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Shemu'el the seer, and in the history of Natan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,


But David had brought the ark of God up from Kiryat-Ye`arim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it at Yerushalayim.


until I find out a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Ya`akov.*


*Moreover you shall make the tent with ten curtains; of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, with Keruvim. The work of the skillful workman you shall make them.


Shall you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar? Didn't your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? then it was well with him.


I, Nevukhadnetzar 1, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.


*Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?


*You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?* says the LORD of Armies, *Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.


who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Ya`akov.
