Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, even there also will your servant be.


Avshalom set `Amasa over the army instead of Yo'av. Now `Amasa was the son of a man, whose name was Yitra the Yisra'eli, who went in to Avigayil the daughter of Nachash, sister to Tzeru'yah, Yo'av's mother.


Say you to `Amasa, Aren't you my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you aren't captain of the army before me continually in the room of Yo'av.


In times past, when Sha'ul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Yisra'el: and the LORD said to you, You shall be shepherd of my people Yisra'el, and you shall be prince over Yisra'el.


But of the children of Yisra'el did Shlomo make no bondservants; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.


When he was departed there, he lighted on Yehonadav the son of Rechav coming to meet him; and he greeted him, and said to him, Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart? This is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Yashov`am, the son of a Chakhmoni, the chief of the thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and killed them at one time.


David went out to meet them, and answered them, If you be come peaceably to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you; but if [you be come] to betray me to my adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it.


Avigayil bore `Amasa; and the father of `Amasa was Yeter the Yishme`elite.


He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; and he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a mantle.


Thus says the LORD of Armies: *In those days, ten men will take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they will take hold of the skirt of him who is a Jew, saying, 'We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'*


*He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn't gather with me, scatters.


As many as walk by this rule, shalom and mercy be on them, and on God's Yisra'el.


The Spirit of the LORD began to move him in Machane-Dan, between Tzor`ah and Eshta'ol.


The Spirit of the LORD came on him, and he judged Yisra'el; and he went out to war, and the LORD delivered Kushan-Rish`atayim king of Aram-Naharayim into his hand: and his hand prevailed against Kushan-Rish`atayim.


But the Spirit of the LORD came on Gid`on; and he blew a shofar; and Avi-Ezer was gathered together after him.

Shemu'el did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Beit-Lechem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Come you peaceably?


He said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice to the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. He sanctified Yishai and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.


Sha'ul said to his servants who stood about him, Hear now, you Binyamini; will the son of Yishai give everyone of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,


The LORD judge between me and you, and the LORD avenge me of you; but my hand shall not be on you.


As says the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked comes forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be on you.


It came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words to Sha'ul, that Sha'ul said, Is this your voice, my son David? Sha'ul lifted up his voice, and wept.


and he will appoint them to him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and [he will set some] to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.
