Moses said to Joshua, “Pick out some men to go and fight the Amalekites tomorrow. I will stand on top of the hill holding the stick that God told me to carry.”


This is the message which the Lord gave Hosea son of Beeri during the time that Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah were kings of Judah, and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel.


“Choose one of the leaders from each of the twelve tribes and send them as spies to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites.”


I promised to let you live there, but not one of you will, except Caleb and Joshua.


And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of the spies, tore their clothes in sorrow


The Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a capable man, and place your hands on his head.


Later on, our ancestors who received the tent from their fathers carried it with them when they went with Joshua and took over the land from the nations that God drove out as they advanced. And it stayed there until the time of David.


This is what he says in the book of Hosea: “The people who were not mine I will call ‘My People.’ The nation that I did not love I will call ‘My Beloved.’


Moses and Joshua son of Nun recited this song, so that the people of Israel could hear it.


If Joshua had given the people the rest that God had promised, God would not have spoken later about another day.
