Then all the people answered together, “We will do everything that the Lord has said,” and Moses reported this to the Lord.


They said to Moses, “If you speak to us, we will listen; but we are afraid that if God speaks to us, we will die.”


Moses went and told the people all the Lord's commands and all the ordinances, and all the people answered together, “We will do everything that the Lord has said.”


Then he took the book of the Covenant, in which the Lord's commands were written, and read it aloud to the people. They said, “We will obey the Lord and do everything that he has commanded.”


“One by one, people will say, ‘I am the Lord's.’ They will come to join the people of Israel. They each will mark the name of the Lord on their arms and call themselves one of God's people.”


Today you have acknowledged the Lord as your God; you have promised to obey him, to keep all his laws, and to do all that he commands.


and if you leave him to serve foreign gods, he will turn against you and punish you. He will destroy you, even though he was good to you before.”


Joshua told them, “You are your own witnesses to the fact that you have chosen to serve the Lord.” “Yes,” they said, “we are witnesses.”
