That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united with his wife, and they become one.


But he found the young woman so attractive that he fell in love with her and tried to win her affection.


He married them even though the Lord had commanded the Israelites not to intermarry with these people, because they would cause the Israelites to give their loyalty to other gods.


and by the time he was old they had led him into the worship of foreign gods. He was not faithful to the Lord his God, as his father David had been.


But when you punish the wicked, punish also those who abandon your ways. Peace be with Israel!


Their speech is wicked and full of lies; they no longer do what is wise and good.


You are doomed, you sinful nation, you corrupt and evil people! Your sins drag you down! You have rejected the Lord, the holy God of Israel, and have turned your backs on him.


“But if a righteous person stops doing good and starts doing all the evil, disgusting things that evil people do, will he go on living? No! None of the good he did will be remembered. He will die because of his unfaithfulness and his sins.


I will destroy those who have turned back and no longer follow me, those who do not come to me or ask me to guide them.”


Then it goes out and brings along seven other spirits even worse than itself, and they come and live there. So when it is all over, that person is in worse shape than at the beginning. This is what will happen to the evil people of this day.”


Because of this, many of Jesus' followers turned back and would not go with him any more.


Love must be completely sincere. Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good.


If you do worship other gods, the Lord's anger will come against you like fire and will destroy you completely, because the Lord your God, who is present with you, tolerates no rivals.


Do not marry any of them, and do not let your children marry any of them,


because then they would lead your children away from the Lord to worship other gods. If that happens, the Lord will be angry with you and destroy you at once.


Be careful, then, to love the Lord your God.


If we say that we are in the light, yet hate others, we are in the darkness to this very hour.
