This is the counsel that I have purposed upon all the earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all nations.


And the angel of the Lord went out, and slew in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And they arose in the morning, and behold, they were all dead corpses.


And I said: How long, O Lord? And he said: Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land shall be left desolate.


Who is the wise man, that may understand this, and to whom the word of the mouth of the Lord may come that he may declare this, why the land hath perished and is burnt up like a wilderness which none passeth through?


Insomuch that I will bring your cities to be a wilderness: and I will make your sanctuaries desolate: and will receive no more your sweet odours.


Woe to you that inhabit the sea coast, O nation of reprobates: the word of the Lord upon you, O Chanaan, the land of the Philistines, and I will destroy thee, so that there shall not be an inhabitant.


And I dispersed them throughout all kingdoms, which they know not: and the land was left desolate behind them, so that no man passed through or returned: and they changed the delightful land into a wilderness.


Behold, you house shall be left to you, desolate.


Now all these things happened to them in figure: and they are written for our correction, upon whom the ends of the world are come.


Now these things were done in a figure of us, that we should not covet evil things as they also coveted.


And now since he hath divided to you by lot all the land, from the east of the Jordan unto the great sea, and many nations yet remain:
