In the mean time it happened that David arose from his bed after noon, and walked upon the roof of the king's house. And he saw from the roof of his house a woman washing herself, over against him: and the woman was very beautiful.


And it came to pass after this, that Amnon the son of David loved the sister of Absalom the son of David, who was very beautiful: and her name was Thamar.


Now Absalom had reared up for himself, in his lifetime, a pillar, which is in the king's valley. For he said: I have no son; and this shall be the monument of my name. And he called the pillar by is own name, and it is called the hand of Absalom, to this day.


And I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will destroy the name of Babylon, and the remains, and the bud, and the offspring, saith the Lord.


Thus saith the Lord: Write this man barren, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for there shall not be a man of his seed that shall sit upon the throne of David and have power any more in Juda.
