The heart of man disposeth his way: but the Lord must direct his steps.


As the divisions of waters, so the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord: whithersoever he will he shall turn it.


And the Lord put the word in his mouth, and said: Return to Balac, and thus shalt thou speak.


And lifting up his eyes, he saw Israel abiding in their tents by their tribes. And the spirit of God rushing upon him,


Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?


And this he spoke not of himself: but being the high priest of that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation.


And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries, and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.


And they came to the foresaid hill, and, behold, a company of prophets met him. And the spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he prophesied in the midst of them.


And one answered another, saying: And who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb: Is Saul also among the prophets?


And the spirit of the Lord shall come upon thee. And thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be changed into another man.


And the day after, the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of his house. And David played with his hand as at other times. And Saul held a spear in his hand,


But David fled and escaped, and came to Samuel in Ramatha, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Najoth.


So Saul sent officers to take David: and when they saw a company of prophets prophesying, and Samuel presiding over them, the spirit of the Lord came also upon them, and they likewise began to prophesy.


Went also himself to Ramatha, and came as far as the great cistern, which is in Socho, and he asked, and said: In what place are Samuel and David? And it was told him: Behold they are in Najoth in Ramatha.
