So Bethsabee went in to the king into the chamber. Now the king was very old, and Abisag the Sunamitess ministered to him.


She answered and said: My lord, thou didst swear to thy handmaid by the Lord thy God, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.


And they told the king, saying: Nathan the prophet is here. And when he was come in before the king, and had worshipped, bowing down to the ground,


And she said to him: I desire one small petition of thee; do not put me to confusion. And the king said to her: My mother, ask; for I must not turn away thy face.


Who said to her: What wilt thou? She saith to him: Say that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left, in thy kingdom.


And Jesus stood, and called them, and said: What will ye that I do to you?


And when the boy was gone, David rose out of his place, which was towards the south, and falling on his face to the ground; adored thrice. And kissing one another, they wept together, but David more.


And David stopped his men with his words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rising up out of the cave, went on his way.


And when Abigail saw David she made haste and lighted off the ass, and fell before David, on her face, and adored upon the ground.
