6 Then the Philistines asked, ‘Who did this? ’ They were told, ‘It was Samson, the Timnite’s son-in-law, because he took Samson’s wife and gave her to his companion.’ So the Philistines went to her and her father and burned them to death.

The one who sows injustice will reap disaster, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.


This means one must not transgress against and take advantage  of a brother or sister in this manner, because the Lord is an avenger of all these offences, as we also previously told and warned you.


The men of Ephraim were called together and crossed the Jordan to Zaphon.  They said to Jephthah, ‘Why have you crossed over to fight against the Ammonites but didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house with you in it! ’


On the fourth  day they said to Samson’s wife, ‘Persuade your husband to explain the riddle to us, or we will burn you and your father’s family to death. Did you invite us here to rob us? ’


Then he ignited the torches and released the foxes into the standing corn of the Philistines. He burned the piles of corn and the standing corn as well as the vineyards and olive groves.


Then Samson told them, ‘Because you did this, I swear that I won’t rest until I have taken vengeance on you.’
