For you ask, ‘What does it profit you, and what benefit comes to me, if I do not sin? ’


He opens their ears  to correction and tells them to repent from iniquity.


God rescues the afflicted by their affliction; he instructs them by their torment.


If people are bound with chains and trapped by the cords of affliction,


Therefore I will not restrain my mouth. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.


‘Therefore, speak to them and tell them, “This is what the Lord God says: When anyone from the house of Israel sets up idols in his heart and puts his sinful stumbling block in front of himself, and then comes to the prophet, I, the Lord, will answer him appropriately.  I will answer him according to his many idols,


When Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house. The windows in its upstairs room opened towards Jerusalem,  and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God,  just as he had done before.


But he has no root and is short-lived. When distress or persecution   comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.


Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.


and chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin.


For it is better to suffer  for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.
