9 He answered me, ‘The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is extremely great; the land is full of bloodshed,  and the city full of perversity. For they say, “The Lord has abandoned the land;  he does not see.”

Manasseh also shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem with it from one end to another.  This was in addition to his sin that he caused Judah to commit, so that they did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.


and also because of all the innocent blood he had shed. He had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood,  and the Lord was not willing to forgive.


Yet you say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through total darkness?


Oh sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, brood of evildoers, depraved children! They have abandoned  the  Lord; they have despised  the Holy One of Israel; they have turned their backs on him.


Woe to those who go to great lengths to hide their plans from the  Lord. They do their works in the dark, and say, ‘Who sees us? Who knows us? ’


You were secure in your wickedness; you said, “No one sees me.” Your wisdom and knowledge led you astray. You said to yourself, “I am, and there is no one else.”


Moreover, your skirts are stained with the blood of the innocent poor. You did not catch them breaking and entering. But in spite of all these things


But you have eyes and a heart for nothing except your own dishonest profit, shedding innocent blood and committing extortion and oppression.


Her adversaries have become her masters; her enemies are at ease, for the Lord has made her suffer because of her many transgressions. Her children have gone away as captives before the adversary.


Forge the chain, for the land is filled with crimes of bloodshed, and the city is filled with violence.


He said to me, ‘Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his idol? For they are saying, “The Lord does not see us. The Lord has abandoned the land.” ’


And he said to me, ‘Do you see this, son of man? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the detestable acts they are doing here, that they must also fill the land with violence  and repeatedly anger me,  even putting the branch to their nose?


This is why the law is ineffective and justice never emerges. For the wicked restrict  the righteous; therefore, justice  comes out perverted.


And at that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who settle down comfortably,  , who say to themselves: ‘The Lord will do nothing #– #good or bad.’


so that this generation   may be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world   , #– #


For I know that after my death you will become completely corrupt and turn from the path I have commanded you. Disaster will come to you in the future, because you will do what is evil in the Lord’s sight, angering him with what your hands have made.’


His people have acted corruptly towards him; this is their defect   #– #they are not his children but a devious and crooked generation.
