Matthew 13:3

I have in mind a mystery that I will explain while playing my harp.

I will give instruction and explain the mystery of what happened long ago.

Ezekiel, son of man, tell the people of Israel the following story,

But I complained, “Lord God, I don't want to do that! People already say I confuse them with my messages.”

When that happens, this sorrowful song will be sung about you: “Ruined! Completely ruined! The Lord has taken our land and given it to traitors.”

But they will be mocked with these words: You're doomed! You stored up stolen goods and cheated others of what belonged to them.

While the farmer was scattering the seed, some of it fell along the road and was eaten by birds.

When Jesus had finished telling these stories, he left

Once again Jesus used stories to teach the people:

Learn a lesson from a fig tree. When its branches sprout and start putting out leaves, you know summer is near.

Jesus then told them this story: A farmer once planted a vineyard. He built a wall around it and dug a pit to crush the grapes in. He also built a lookout tower. Then he rented out his vineyard and left the country.

The leaders knew that Jesus was really talking about them, and they wanted to arrest him. But because they were afraid of the crowd, they let him alone and left.

Jesus told the people to gather around him. Then he spoke to them in riddles and said: How can Satan force himself out?

Jesus then told them: If you don't understand this story, you won't understand any others.

Jesus used many other stories when he spoke to the people, and he taught them as much as they could understand.

Peter asked Jesus, “Did you say this just for us or for everyone?”

So he answered: I have explained the secrets about God's kingdom to you. But for others I use stories, so they will look, but not see, and they will hear, but not understand.

I have used examples to explain to you what I have been talking about. But the time will come when I will speak to you plainly about the Father and will no longer use examples like these.
