“Don't hurt the boy or harm him in any way!” the angel said. “Now I know that you truly obey God, because you were willing to offer him your only son.”


The Lord said, “Go get Isaac, your only son, the one you dearly love! Take him to the land of Moriah, and I will show you a mountain where you must sacrifice him to me on the fires of an altar.”


Now all of my relatives have come to me and said, “Hand over your son! We're going to put him to death for killing his brother.” But what they really want is to get rid of him, so they can take over our land. Please don't let them put out my only flame of hope! There won't be anyone left on this earth to carry on my husband's name.


The widow answered, “In the name of the living Lord your God, I swear that I don't have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour and a little olive oil. I'm on my way home now with these few sticks to cook what I have for my son and me. After that, we will starve to death.”


The woman shouted at Elijah, “What have I done to you? I thought you were God's prophet. Did you come here to cause the death of my son as a reminder that I've sinned against God?”


Elijah picked him up and carried him downstairs. He gave the boy to his mother and said, “Look, your son is alive.”


“Go to the town of Zarephath in Sidon and live there. I've told a widow in that town to give you food.”


Elisha said to her, “Next year at this time, you'll be holding your own baby son in your arms.” “You're a man of God,” the woman replied. “Please don't lie to me.”


The servant picked up the boy and carried him to his mother. The boy lay on her lap all morning, and by noon he was dead.


And I was highly praised for my generosity to widows and others in poverty.


I, the Lord, will make the descendants of David and the people of Jerusalem feel deep sorrow and pray when they see the one they pierced with a spear. They will mourn and weep for him, as parents weep over the death of their only child or their first-born.


Soon Jesus and his disciples were on their way to the town of Nain, and a big crowd was going along with them.


When the Lord saw the woman, he felt sorry for her and said, “Don't cry!”


because his twelve-year-old child was dying. She was his only daughter. While Jesus was on his way, people were crowding all around him.


Everyone was crying and weeping for the girl. But Jesus said, “The child isn't dead. She is just asleep.”


and many people had come from the city to comfort Martha and Mary because their brother had died.


At once, Peter went with them. The men took Peter upstairs into the room. Many widows were there crying. They showed him the coats and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was still alive.


He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Peter called in the widows and the other followers and showed them that Dorcas had been raised from death.


Religion that pleases God the Father must be pure and spotless. You must help needy orphans and widows and not let this world make you evil.
