just as Jacob's sons were coming in from work. When they learned that their sister had been raped, they became furiously angry, because nothing is more disgraceful than rape, and it must not be tolerated.


Think of me. I'll be disgraced forever! And think of yourself. Everyone in Israel will say you're nothing but trash! Just ask the king, and he will let you marry me.”


I said everything in Jericho belonged to me and had to be destroyed. But the Israelites have kept some of the things for themselves. They stole from me and hid what they took. Then they lied about it.


Joshua got up early the next morning and brought each tribe to the place of worship, where the Lord showed that the Judah tribe was guilty.


Later that night, the men of Gibeah surrounded the house. They wanted to kill me, but instead they raped and killed my wife.


It was a terrible thing for Israelites to do! So I cut up her body and sent the pieces everywhere in Israel.


“David, you had the chance to kill me today. But you didn't. I was very wrong about you. It was a terrible mistake for me to try to kill you. I've acted like a fool, but I'll never try to harm you again. You're like a son to me, so please come back.”
