So everyone gave Jacob their idols and their earrings, and he buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.


Jehoiada the priest asked King Joash and the people to promise that they would be faithful to each other and to the Lord.


They made a solemn promise to faithfully worship the Lord God their ancestors had worshiped,


Everyone was happy because they had made this solemn promise, and in return, the Lord blessed them with peace from all their enemies.


Jehoiada asked King Joash and the people to join with him in being faithful to the Lord. They agreed,


So I have decided to renew our agreement with the Lord God of Israel. Maybe then he will stop being so angry with us.


And so, a firm agreement was made that had the official approval of the leaders, the Levites, and priests.


Moses asked the Lord for help, and the Lord told him to throw a certain piece of wood into the water. Moses did so, and the water became fit to drink. At Marah the Lord tested his people and also gave them some laws and teachings.


Moses gave the Lord's instructions to the people, and they all promised, “We will do everything the Lord has commanded!”


So Moses finished telling the Israelites what they had to do in order to keep the agreement the Lord was making with them in Moab, which was in addition to the one the Lord had made with them at Mount Sinai.


Joshua called the tribes of Israel together for a meeting at Shechem. He asked the leaders, including the old men, the judges, and the officials, to come up and stand near the sacred tent.


and wrote them down in The Book of the Law of God. Then he set up a large stone under the oak tree at the place of worship in Shechem
