I will bless you and make your descendants into a great nation. You will become famous and be a blessing to others.


David sang a song to the Lord after the Lord had rescued him from his enemies, especially Saul. These are the words to David's song:


You help me defeat armies and capture cities.


I ground them to dust, and I squashed them like mud in the streets.


These are the last words of David the son of Jesse. The God of Jacob chose David and made him a great king. The Mighty God of Israel loved him. When God told him to speak, David said:


David became a great and strong ruler, because the Lord All-Powerful was on his side.


David fought the Edomite army in Salt Valley and killed 18,000 of their soldiers. When he returned, he built a monument.


David left soldiers all through Edom, and the people of Edom had to accept him as their ruler. Wherever David went, the Lord helped him.


He left some of his soldiers in Damascus, and the Arameans had to accept David as their ruler and pay taxes to him. Everywhere David went, the Lord helped him win battles.


Wherever you went, I helped you and destroyed your enemies right in front of your eyes. I have made you one of the most famous people in the world.


You have given him blessings that will last forever, and you have made him glad by being so near to him.


I will strike down and crush his troublesome enemies.


God drags strong rulers from their thrones and puts humble people in places of power.


The Lord helped Joshua in everything he did, and Joshua was famous everywhere in Canaan.


The Lord helped David, and he and his soldiers always won their battles.


The Philistine rulers kept coming to fight Israel, but whenever David fought them, he won. He was famous because he won more battles against the Philistines than any of Saul's other officers.


You lift the poor and homeless out of the garbage dump and give them places of honor in royal palaces. You set the world on foundations, and they belong to you.


Saul was dead, his three sons were dead, and the soldier who carried his weapons was dead. They and all his soldiers died on that same day.
