How can I pardon thee? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the harlots' houses;


Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.


And one hath committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father's daughter.


But cursed be the deceiver, who hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King, saith Jehovah of hosts, and my name is terrible among the Gentiles.\par


And when ye offer the blind for sacrifice, it is no evil! and when ye offer the lame and sick, it is no evil! Present it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee? or will he accept thy person? saith Jehovah of hosts.


Will a man rob God? yet ye rob me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.


But he answered and said unto them, {\cf6 An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet:


An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah.} And he left them, and departed.\par


And he taught, and said unto them, {\cf6 Is it not written, {\b My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations}? but ye have made it a {\b den of robbers.}}


For ye have brought {\i hither} these men, who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of our goddess.


Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.


Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God.
