I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;


Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth:\par\tab Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.


When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity,\par\tab Thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth:\par\tab Surely every man is vanity. {\i Selah\par


{\b For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, set to the Sheminith. A Psalm of David.}\par\par\tab O Jehovah, rebuke me not in thine anger,\par\tab Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.


For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up;\par\tab And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.


He that chastiseth the nations, shall not he correct,\par\tab {\i Even} he that teacheth man knowledge?


There is grievous correction for him that forsaketh the way;\par\tab {\i And} he that hateth reproof shall die.


He that refuseth correction despiseth his own soul;\par\tab But he that hearkeneth to reproof getteth understanding.


Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;\par\tab {\i But} the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.


Jehovah, in trouble have they visited thee; they poured out a prayer {\i when} thy chastening was upon them.


O Jehovah, correct me, but in measure: not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.


In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.


For I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to save thee: for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have scattered thee, but I will not make a full end of thee; but I will correct thee in measure, and will in no wise leave thee unpunished.\par


I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself {\i thus}, Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed {\i to the yoke}: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art Jehovah my God.


And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hath not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.\par


She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in Jehovah; she drew not near to her God.


Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their own lamps.


His disciples remembered that it was written, {\b Zeal for thy house shall eat me up.}


in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;


But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.


as unknown, and {\i yet} well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;


For behold, this selfsame thing, that ye were made sorry after a godly sort, what earnest care it wrought in you, yea what clearing of yourselves, yea what indignation, yea what fear, yea what longing, yea what zeal, yea what avenging! In everything ye approved yourselves to be pure in the matter.


But it is good to be zealously sought in a good matter at all times, and not only when I am present with you.


And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee.


who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.\par


Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which {\i the Lord} promised to them that love him.


Remember therefore whence thou art fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I come to thee, and will move thy candlestick out of its place, except thou repent.
