My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct,\par\tab The grave is {\i ready} for me.


I cry unto thee, and thou dost not answer me:\par\tab I stand up, and thou gazest at me.


For the arrows of the Almighty are within me,\par\tab The poison whereof my spirit drinketh up:\par\tab The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.


For thou art the God of my strength; why hast thou cast me off?\par\tab Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?


For our soul is bowed down to the dust:\par\tab Our body cleaveth unto the earth.


For all the day long have I been plagued,\par\tab And chastened every morning.


Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see {\i his} seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.


He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.\par


Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.


And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.
