Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give your counsel what we shall do.


And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.


He saith in his heart, God hath forgotten;\par\tab He hideth his face; he will never see it.


Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God,\par\tab And say in his heart,\par\tab Thou wilt not require {\i it}?


The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, {\i saith},\par\tab He will not require {\i it}.\par\tab All his thoughts are,\par\tab There is no God.


The proud have had me greatly in derision:\par\tab {\i Yet} have I not swerved from thy law.


The proud have forged a lie against me:\par\tab With my whole heart will I keep thy precepts.

Let not the foot of pride come against me,\par\tab And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.

He will requite the evil unto mine enemies:\par\tab Destroy thou them in thy truth.
