And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, yet would I not put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.


And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Jabesh-gilead were they that buried Saul.


So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah: and they anointed David king over Israel.


Unto this day they do after the former manner: they fear not Jehovah, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law or after the commandment which Jehovah commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;


And they have rewarded me evil for good,\par\tab And hatred for my love.


All mine enemies shall be put to shame and sore troubled:\par\tab They shall turn back, they shall be put to shame suddenly.\par


If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me\par\tab (Yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary);


My lovingkindness will I keep for him for evermore;\par\tab And my covenant shall stand fast with him.


My covenant will I not break,\par\tab Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.


But thou hast cast off and rejected,\par\tab Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.


Thy throne is established of old:\par\tab Thou art from everlasting.


I {\i counsel thee}, Keep the king's command, and that in regard of the oath of God.


O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.\par


Now about that time Herod the king put forth his hands to afflict certain of the church.


And the king said unto the guard that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of Jehovah; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.


Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that Jehovah had delivered thee to-day into my hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee; but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is Jehovah's anointed.
