And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.


Let them be put to shame and turned backward,\par\tab All they that hate Zion.


Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt:\par\tab Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.


They also that seek after my life lay snares {\i for me};\par\tab And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things,\par\tab And meditate deceits all the day long.


My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long;\par\tab For they are put to shame, for they are confounded, that seek my hurt.\par


That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah,\par\tab Art the Most High over all the earth.\par


Because of thy raging against me, and because thine arrogancy is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.\par


Wherefore have I seen it? they are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: terror is on every side, saith Jehovah.


And ye have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hearken unto lies.\par


Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:


When therefore he said unto them, {\cf6 I am {\i he},} they went backward, and fell to the ground.


See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking-places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me of a certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.
