For the battle was there spread over the face of all the country; and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.


They have gaped upon me with their mouth;\par\tab They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully:\par\tab They gather themselves together against me.


And I brake the jaws of the unrighteous,\par\tab And plucked the prey out of his teeth.


Arise, O Jehovah; O God, lift up thy hand:\par\tab Forget not the poor.


Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy,\par\tab Now will I arise, saith Jehovah;\par\tab I will set him in the safety he panteth for.


Though a host should encamp against me,\par\tab My heart shall not fear:\par\tab Though war should rise against me,\par\tab Even then will I be confident.


Stir up thyself, and awake to the justice {\i due} unto me,\par\tab {\i Even} unto my cause, my God and my Lord.


Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord?\par\tab Arise, cast {\i us} not off for ever.

Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.


Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise! Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
