And the afflicted people thou wilt save; But thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.


The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, {\i saith},\par\tab He will not require {\i it}.\par\tab All his thoughts are,\par\tab There is no God.


Whoso privily slandereth his neighbor, him will I destroy:\par\tab Him that hath a high look and a proud heart will I not suffer.


They are inclosed in their own fat:\par\tab With their mouth they speak proudly.


Arise, O Jehovah,\par\tab Confront him, cast him down:\par\tab Deliver my soul from the wicked by thy sword;


Many are the afflictions of the righteous;\par\tab But Jehovah delivereth him out of them all.


This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard him,\par\tab And saved him out of all his troubles.


But I am poor and needy;\par\tab {\i Yet} the Lord thinketh upon me:\par\tab Thou art my help and my deliverer;\par\tab Make no tarrying, O my God.\par


For the needy shall not alway be forgotten,\par\tab Nor the expectation of the poor perish for ever.


There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes,\par\tab And yet are not washed from their filthiness.


Wherefore it shall come to pass, that, when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.


The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have done evil unto themselves.


For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.


For all these things hath my hand made, and {\i so} all these things came to be, saith Jehovah: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word.


My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.


I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.}\par


For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.


Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world {\i to be} rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?
